“One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child.”
Dr. Maria Montessori
Welcome!
Pawleys Island Montessori Day School has offered traditional Montessori early educational experiences to families on the Waccamaw Neck for nearly twenty-five years. We are a community of people working together to provide a warm, loving and nurturing environment for our children. All of our lead teachers are certified by the American Montessori Society, and our support staff is dedicated and well qualified. Our school hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with aftercare available before and after school. We offer programs for children ages 18 months through 12 years of age.
The principal difference between Montessori and other schools is the technique of teaching. Montessori utilizes a child’s natural tendency to learn by active participation and provides educational material and equipment that encourages this type of learning. You can read more about the differences between Montessori and traditional schools here. In essence, learning is fun. Our school offers multiple levels of progress, allowing students to work on different stages of the same curriculum at different times, assuring that children can progress at a pace suited to them.
Our mission is to provide a safe Montessori environment that empowers and challenges children to achieve, and promotes independence, self-confidence and the love of learning.
Our goals for our students are that they:
- be open-minded and compassionate,
- gain a sense of themselves and others,
- understand and appreciate the diversity of the human spirit,
- be well trained in basic academic disciplines,
- fulfill their creative potential,
- gain satisfaction in their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development,
- value knowledge, creativity, and humor,
- be responsible, critical, caring members of a pluralistic society, and
- recognize that they have the power and resources to effect change as well as the self-esteem and confidence to pursue their goals.
We sincerely believe that children who attend a school such as ours during the formative years grow up with a positive outlook on life and a real love of learning. Our staff is committed to this plan of education, which encompasses a prepared environment, growth of independence, and clearly defined expectations.
